SCHOOL HISTORY

The history of Full Potential reflects our unwavering dedication to empowering and supporting youth communities. Since 2001, we have been committed to creating opportunities for young people in Washington, DC, starting with a Saturday Program designed to teach new skills, provide academic tutoring, and offer a safe space for growth. In response to a State of Emergency declared by the city's Mayor due to youth-related challenges, we launched the Creative, Imaginative Kids Fashion Show to address these critical issues.

As the years passed, our programs grew to include one-on-one tutoring in partnership with the District of Columbia Public Schools, along with collaborations with the Mayor's Youth Summer Employment Program, through which we introduced our 5 Point Program for graduates.

In 2021, we expanded our efforts to Baltimore, MD. Customizing programs to meet the city's unique needs, with a strong focus on academic support in math, reading, writing, and social-emotional development.

By 2023, we successfully funded a summer program in Baltimore to address learning loss.

Looking ahead to Fall 2025, Full Potential Academy will open a non-public school designed to provide targeted support for students in need of social-emotional guidance, small group instruction and one-on-one support.

The school will focus on helping students improve their proficiency in math, reading, and writing. Students selected for the Full Potential Summer Academy will also be enrolled in Full Potential Academy for the school year, ensuring continuity of services and a lasting positive impact on their education and personal development.

OUR WHY

At Full Potential Academy, we are committed to enhancing student proficiency in reading, writing and math through a multi-faceted approach. We provide personalized learning opportunities, allowing students to tackle challenging concepts at their own pace, ensuring comprehensive understanding without the pressure of rushing individual students through a rigorous scope and sequence.

Our one-on-one support services provide students with the individual support they require to grasp grade level content. Students will be able to fill in educational gaps to improve in their proficiency levels in math, reading and writing utilizing self-paced learnings while working with a one-on-one classroom assistant.

Our small group sessions, consisting of 2-5 students that will focus on specific skills, facilitating a more intimate learning environment that effectively boosts academic levels.

Whole group instruction is another key component of our strategy, whereas students are exposed to grade-level content, encouraging students to stretch their minds and apply new concepts in real-world scenarios. This segment of the day is essential for fostering a comprehensive understanding and engagement with the material which helps to support grade level thinking and provide grade level academic exposure.

Our collaboration with Full Potential DMV significantly enhances our program. Through this partnership, we integrate social-emotional learning into the school day. Licensed therapists from Full Potential DMV work closely with students, helping them develop crucial social and emotional skills, including self-awareness, empathy, and effective communication. These skills not only contribute to overall student development but also fortify their academic success, preparing them to tackle future challenges with confidence.

Moreover, instructors from Full Potential DMV are available to assist students with small tasks during the instructional day. They also conduct workshops focused on social-emotional learning, further reinforcing the development of well-rounded individuals who are ready to reach their full potential in both academic and personal spheres.
